As a pre-integrated and pre-verified solution built from widely adopted and commercially deployed components, the Cloud-native Private 5G RAN Solution guarantees costs and time-to-market reduction.
Cloud-native Private 5G RAN Solution features 5G gNB CU and L2 features of 5G gNB DU by Effnet, Upper-L1 features of 5G gNB DU by Phluido, and UL1 accelerator by Tannera. The solution fully exploits performance of independent components, thus providing high-end communication speeds on the off-the-shelf hardware, while maintaining flexibility and scalability.
All RAN components are fully containerized and can be conveniently orchestrated using container orchestrators like Kubernetes. However, the solution supports bare-metal deployments as well.
The consortium provides:
- Full-feature independent CU components: 5G gNB CU-CP and 5G gNB CU-UP, containing L2 and L3 features and interfaced via standardized and open interfaces such as NG-C, NG-U, E1, F1-C, and F1-U,
- 5G gNB DU component containing L2 functionalities also interfaced via standardized interfaces,
- 5G gNB DU UL1 component containing all Upper-PHY functionalities,
- DPDK/BBDEV compliant lookaside UL1 accelerator - virtualized and accessible from independent containers, that enables deployment of a large number of cells on a single server machine.
Our technology is ready to be deployed on multi-core platforms for multi-cell scenarios, which brings down the cost per cell, while enables the combining of RAN with edge computing and AI.
The solution provides essential features such as inter-CU handover, intra-CU/inter-DU handover and intra-DU handover to enable variety of network deployment scenarios. Since the RAN components are modular, they can run near RUs, on the Edge, or in the cloud, providing the optimal deployment scenario for target use case.
Moreover, a single CU might be connected to a number of DUs in either co-located or dislocated scenarios.
The consortium's Cloud-native Private 5G RAN Solution is an ideal match for all these scenarios, hence covering all the applications from small private 5G networks to hyperscalers and macro cell deployments, including coexistence with edge computing and AI workloads.
The demo shows the Private 5G RAN Solution deployed on a general purpose server. The server is based on Ampere Altra Q80-30 processor with Arm Neoverse-N1 CPU cores. It is connected to Benetel's RAN650 commercial RU via 10 Gbps optical link. Commercial UEs are used for end-to-end functionality demonstration.
Effnet's 5G gNB CU and 5G gNB DU components, as well as Phluido's 5G UL1 run in separate containers. Tannera's lookaside acceleration IP runs on AMD-Xilinx Alveo U50 FPGA acceleration card and serves multiple cells.
